Who We Are
Mauritian Rides is operated by Mauritian Rides Ltd, Port Louis, Mauritius. We run a ride dispatch platform that connects riders with licensed independent taxi drivers across Mauritius. Data We Collect
Riders. When you submit a ride booking, we collect your name and phone number (required), your email address (optional), your pickup and drop-off locations, and your preferred date, time, number of passengers, and vehicle type.
Drivers. When you register as a driver, we collect your name, phone number, and email address; your vehicle details (make, model, registration); your identity and licensing documents (National ID card, driving licence, and PSV licence); profile and vehicle photographs; and subscription payment records (processed via MIPS / MCB Juice).
Website visitors. We may automatically collect standard technical data when you browse our site, including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and referring URLs. This data is collected via our hosting infrastructure and helps us maintain and improve the platform.
How and Why We Use Your Data
We process personal data only where we have a lawful basis to do so:
- Fulfilling a booking request — to match you with an available driver and send booking confirmation. Lawful basis: performance of a contract / taking steps at your request.
- Sending booking confirmations — via WhatsApp (Meta WhatsApp Cloud API) and/or email, where you have provided contact details. Lawful basis: legitimate interest / your request.
- Driver registration and verification — to confirm eligibility, valid licensing, and identity before a driver is listed. Lawful basis: legal obligation and legitimate interest.
- Processing driver subscription payments — to manage monthly subscriptions billed through MIPS / MCB Juice. Lawful basis: performance of a contract.
- Platform security and fraud prevention — to detect and respond to abuse or misuse. Lawful basis: legitimate interest.
- Improving our services — to understand how the platform is used and where it can be better. Lawful basis: legitimate interest.
Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell personal data. We share it only as described below.
- Drivers — When a booking is matched, the assigned driver receives the rider's name, phone number, pickup and drop-off locations, and trip preferences. This is necessary to fulfil the booking.
- Google — Google Maps is used for address autocomplete and map display. Google's own privacy policy applies to data processed through their services.
- Meta (WhatsApp Cloud API) — Booking confirmation messages may be delivered via Meta's WhatsApp Cloud API.
- MIPS / MCB Juice — Driver subscription payments are handled via the MIPS payment gateway and MCB Juice. We do not store full card details.
- DigitalOcean / SpinupWP — Our hosting infrastructure provider; server-level data such as logs may be accessible to them.
- Legal authorities — We may disclose data where required by law or in response to a valid legal request from Mauritian authorities.

Data Retention
- Rider booking data is retained for a reasonable period after the trip date to allow for dispute resolution, then deleted or anonymised.

- Payment records are retained as required for accounting and tax purposes.
- Website technical logs are typically retained for a short period determined by our hosting provider's standard practices.
Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. These include access controls, encrypted connections (HTTPS), and restricted access to sensitive driver documents. No method of electronic transmission or storage is entirely secure, but we take this responsibility seriously.
Your Rights Under the Mauritius Data Protection Act 2017
You have the right of access, the right to rectification, the right to erasure (subject to legal retention obligations), the right to restrict processing, the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and the right to data portability where applicable.
