These Terms and Conditions apply to all users of the Mauritian Rides platform, including riders and drivers. Before using our services, you should also read our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect and handle your personal data.
1. Who We Are
Mauritian Rides is operated by Mauritian Rides Ltd, Port Louis, Mauritius. We operate a ride dispatch platform — an online service that connects riders seeking transportation with licensed independent taxi drivers in Mauritius.
Mauritian Rides is not a taxi company, transport operator, or carrier. We do not own or operate vehicles. We do not employ drivers. We do not set fares, collect ride payments, or take any cut of the fare paid for a trip. Our role is strictly to facilitate the connection between riders and drivers. The transport contract for any given trip is between the rider and the driver directly.
2. Acceptance of These Terms
By using our website, submitting a booking, or registering as a driver, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform. We may update these terms from time to time; continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
3. Booking a Ride — How It Works
Riders do not need an account to request a ride. To submit a booking you provide your name and phone number (required), your email address (optional, used for confirmation), pickup and drop-off locations, and your preferred date, time, number of passengers, and vehicle type.
Once submitted, your request is dispatched to available registered drivers. The first available suitable driver to accept will be matched to your booking. We will endeavour to send confirmation by WhatsApp and/or email, but confirmation is not guaranteed if no driver is available for the requested time.
Fares are agreed directly between you and your driver. Mauritian Rides does not set, control, or receive any part of the fare. Payment for the trip is made directly to the driver at the end of the journey. Mauritian Rides has no involvement in the fare transaction.
4. Rider Responsibilities and Conduct
As a rider, you agree to:
- Provide accurate pickup and drop-off information when making a booking
- Be ready at the agreed pickup location at the confirmed time
- Treat drivers with respect and not engage in abusive, threatening, or unlawful behaviour
- Comply with the driver's reasonable instructions during the trip, including seatbelt use
- Not request or encourage a driver to violate traffic laws or operate unsafely
- Pay the agreed fare directly to the driver at the end of the trip
- Be aged 18 or over to use the platform independently
Mauritian Rides reserves the right to block riders where there is evidence of repeated misconduct, abuse of the booking system, or fraudulent use.
5. Driver Eligibility and Registration
To register as a driver you must be aged 18 or over; hold a valid Mauritian driving licence and a valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licence; operate a roadworthy vehicle properly insured for carrying passengers; and submit accurate personal information, vehicle details, and copies of your National ID card, driving licence, and PSV licence, along with current photographs as requested.
By submitting your registration, you confirm that all documents and information provided are genuine, accurate, and current. You agree to notify us promptly if your licensing, insurance, or vehicle status changes in a way that affects your eligibility. We reserve the right to verify documents and to reject or suspend registrations where documents are invalid, expired, or fraudulent. Acceptance onto the platform does not constitute any warranty or endorsement of a driver's conduct or service quality.
6. Driver Status — Independent Contractor
Drivers who register on Mauritian Rides are independent contractors, not employees, agents, or partners of Mauritian Rides Ltd. You operate your own vehicle, set your own availability, and are responsible for your own tax, insurance, compliance with traffic and transport regulations, and any other legal obligations applicable to your work as a taxi operator in Mauritius. Nothing in these Terms creates an employment relationship, agency, partnership, or joint venture.
7. Driver Subscription Packages
Access to the dispatch platform for drivers is subject to a subscription model. A limited free tier is available, allowing a driver to receive a restricted number of bookings per period. Beyond the free tier, paid subscription packages provide expanded or unlimited booking access and additional features.
Subscription fees are billed monthly and are processed via the MIPS payment gateway, with support for card payments and MCB Juice. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge the applicable fee at the start of each billing period. Subscription fees cover access to the dispatch platform only — they are not a fare-sharing arrangement, and Mauritian Rides receives no portion of any trip fare. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or where we determine a refund is appropriate at our discretion. We may change subscription pricing with reasonable notice.
8. Cancellations and No-Shows
Riders: If you need to cancel, please do so as early as possible by contacting the driver directly using the details in your confirmation, or by contacting Mauritian Rides. Repeated last-minute cancellations or no-shows may result in restricted access.
Drivers: If you cannot fulfil a confirmed booking, you must notify the rider and Mauritian Rides promptly. Persistent failure to honour confirmed bookings may result in suspension or removal. Mauritian Rides is not liable for losses arising from a cancellation or no-show by either party.
9. Payments
Riders pay drivers directly. Mauritian Rides is not party to the fare transaction, does not hold or process ride payments, and is not responsible for any payment dispute between a rider and a driver.
Drivers pay Mauritian Rides a monthly subscription fee for platform access. Failure to maintain a current subscription may result in suspension of your driver account and removal from the active dispatch pool.
10. Limitation of Liability
Mauritian Rides provides a dispatch and communication platform. We are not a transport provider and have no operational control over drivers, vehicles, or trips.
- We are not liable for any injury, loss, damage, delay, or other harm arising from or during a trip between a rider and a driver.
- We are not responsible for the conduct, safety, punctuality, or professionalism of any driver or rider.
- We are not liable for losses arising from the unavailability of a driver, a failed booking confirmation, or any technical failure of the platform.
- We do not guarantee that a driver will be available for any given booking request.
- To the fullest extent permitted by the laws of Mauritius, our total liability to any user shall not exceed the subscription fees paid by that user in the three months preceding the claim (for drivers), or zero (for riders, who make no payment to us).
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by our own negligence.
11. Intellectual Property
All content on the Mauritian Rides website and platform — including the name, logo, design, text, and software — is owned by or licensed to Mauritian Rides Ltd. You may not reproduce, copy, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of our platform without written permission. Drivers grant Mauritian Rides a limited, non-exclusive licence to display their name, vehicle details, and profile photograph on the platform for the purpose of operating the dispatch service.
12. Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate access at any time if we reasonably believe a user has violated these Terms; provided false, fraudulent, or misleading information; behaved in an unsafe, abusive, or harmful manner; allowed required licences or insurance to lapse; or failed to maintain a current subscription (drivers). Drivers may cancel their subscription and close their account at any time by contacting us. Unused subscription days are generally non-refundable unless otherwise agreed.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Mauritian Rides Ltd and its officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, losses, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of or access to the platform, your breach of these Terms, any act or omission during a trip for which you are responsible, or any false or misleading information you have provided.
14. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms and Conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Mauritius, and any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Mauritius. We encourage users to contact us first to resolve any issue informally before pursuing formal proceedings.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and, where changes are material, make reasonable efforts to notify registered drivers by email. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
